Egypt FA Dissolved Over Election Rigging

DSC_0938

Ahead of Tuesday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Egypt and Nigeria in Alexandria, the executive board of the Egyptian Football Association has been dissolved.

According to ahram.org, the decision was taken by a court ruling on Sunday over suspected rigging of 2012 elections.

It is believed the verdict is final and cannot be appealed.

The case dates back to a lawsuit filed in 2013 by the president of the second division football team Bani Ebeid, Hermas Radwan, challenging the integrity of the voting process in the association’s 2012 elections.

The regular four-year elections of a new board are set to take place in September 2016.

The current Executive Director of the Board Tharwat Sweilam is expected to direct the association till September.

Salah Happy Not To Score Second Goal Vs Nigeria

EGPYT CELEBRATE

By James Agberebi:

Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah has revealed that he was pleased Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe stopped him from scoring what would have been the winning goal against Nigeria in Friday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Kaduna.

Salah, who scored a late equaliser against Nigeria on Friday, had the chance to score the winning goal only for Sikazwe to signal the end of the game, a decision which angered some of the Egyptian players.

But according to ahram.org, Salah said he feared the fans in the stadium would react negatively if he had scored hence his relief when the referee blew the final whistle.

“I breathed a sigh of relief after the referee blew the final whistle,” Salah said.

“I was afraid when I received the ball and was heading directly towards the goal to score what coud have been the winner.

“Had I been able to score, I wouldn’t have been able to tell what exactly the fans’ response would be, that’s why I thanked God right after the final whistle.”

Egypt will host the reverse leg against the Eagles on Tuesday.

The game will take place inside the Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

Mikel: Super Eagles Have To Qualify For 2017 AFCON

YUF_5457

Nigeria captain Mikel Obi has urged his Super Eagles colleagues to go all out for victory when they face the Pharaohs of Egypt in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Alexandria on Tuesday.

The first meeting between the two sides ended in a 1-1 draw in Kaduna on Friday.

Mikel said the Eagles have to fight harder than they have ever done before to snatch the three points at the Borg El-Arab Stadium.

“It’s a massive battle that we are going for, and there should be no illusion about it," Mikel told the Nigeria Football Federation website. "We have to face reality, and everyone has to give more than 100 per cent because we just have to qualify for the Cup of Nations.”

The Chelsea star insisted there is no reason to panic following Friday’s draw, and pointed to the fact that there are still three more matches left in the campaign.

“We have to go to Alexandria and fight with everything we have. There are still matches to play and we have confidence that we will earn the ticket. We also call on Nigerians to believe in the team and continue to support us,” he added.

After the clash with the Pharaohs in Alexandria on Tuesday, the Eagles will travel to Nd’jamena to battle the Le Sao of Chad in the first week of June, before hosting Tanzania in the final round of the series in the first week of September.

NFF topshots have confirmed that the players and officials will now travel to Alexandria on Monday aboard a chartered flight, as against an earlier arrangement to fly the delegation aboard Egypt Air. The team will fly direct to Alexandria and have the official training at the match venue on Monday evening, before Tuesday’s match.

Ighalo: I’ll Give More Than 100% Against Egypt

ighaloo

Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has vowed to give more than 100 per cent commitment on the pitch against Egypt in Friday's 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Kaduna, and the Watford striker hopes that team work will win the match for the Super Eagles.

The Eagles trail Egypt by two points, and must secure all three points to brighten their chance of qualifying for next year's AFCON in Gabon.

According to cafonline.com, Ighalo, who is Watford's top scorer in the English Premier League this season, states he is ready to give his all to make sure the Eagles win.

“I'm equally looking forward to the AFCON qualifier against Egypt like every Nigerian,” Ighalo says.

“These matches (against Egypt) are important and crucial towards our aspirations of playing at the next tournament in Gabon."

Ighalo adds: “My attitude towards these two matches against Egypt would be similar to Watford’s. I will give my best and play with a lot of determination. We know the matches against Egypt are not going to be easy but with determination, we shall be victorious.

“Against Egypt, it is not only about counting on Odion Ighalo. It is going to be about team effort and I want to believe as a team, we have what it takes to confront Egypt.

“For instance at Watford, if I don't score others still do because football is a team effort; and I want to believe with our collective effort, we would get good results against Egypt.”

Commenting on the thought of working with a new coach following the sudden resignation of Sunday Oliseh and the appointment of Samson Siasia, Ighalo assures he is ready to work with any coach.

Ighalo pledges: “I will as usual give more than 100 per cent irrespective of the fact that we have new coaches in charge of the team. There is nothing new and I would go out there and do my best like I have always done under previous coaches.”

He hailed his club manager Quique Sanchez Flores for his support during his goal drought, stating that playing at Wembley is would be a dream come through.

“The coach has been motivating me and telling me to keep working hard and that the goal will come at the right time. Eventually, it (goal) came against Arsenal and I'm happy about it. Personally, it would be a dream come for me playing at Wembley.”

“It has always been a dream to play at the Wembley Stadium because it is regarded as the traditional home of football in England. My focus now is on the coming matches against Egypt and as I said earlier, our collective efforts would see us through.”

The Super Eagles beat Chad 2-0 in Kaduna before playing out a barren draw with Tanzania in Dar es Salaam in their two previous games.

Iwobi Suffers Food Poisoning, Misses Training; Siasia Dismisses England Switch

Iwobi5

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:

Super Eagles new kid on the block, Alex Iwobi, missed the Nigeria national team's first and last training session in Abuja on Tuesday as a result of food poisoning he suffered on Monday night.

"Iwobi could not train today because of food poisoning," caretaker coach  Samson Siasia told Completesportsnigeria.com. "He had been purging all night after he ate dinner with his other colleagues in camp. He got prompt medical attention from our doctors and I have just been told that he is okay and ready to go

"The medical team just confirmed to me that he'll be okay to travel to Kaduna with us and join us in the training in the evening. There is no fear, what happened to him can happen to anybody whether home-based or foreign-based player or an official. No tension, he is okay."

On whether it is ploy not to play for the Super Eagles in a competitive match because he is wanted by the Three Lions of England, Siasia said the boy came to Nigeria to play for his country and that no amount of pressure will stop him from earning his third cap for Nigeria.

"I don't know why there is this talk that England want to snatch him from us, they cannot because he has played twice for Nigeria and the only thing that may stop him from playing, is if he falls sick or he is not fit," the former Super eagles striker added.

Mikel Pleased With New Chelsea Role

mikel

Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has stated in clear terms that he is pleased with his role in the Chelsea squad despite

only regaining his place in the team under interim boss, Guus Hiddink.

In March's edition of the Chelsea magazine titled 'Elegant Enforcer', Mikel revealed how he has developed over the years playing in the defensive midfield role for a decade at the club.

"I love doing my defensive duties, but at the same time, I love having the ball and always trying to be available so we can play out from the back," Mikel said.

"This is something we’ve talked about, something the manager has stressed – trying to play out from the back so we can always be in control of the game. I think doing this we have much more possession of the ball.

"I like having the ball and making the team play. When I was young, my natural position wasn’t as a defensive midfielder, so maybe that gives me a bit of an edge."

Mikel who is expected to make his wealth of experience count when the Super Eagles of Nigeria tackle Egypt in this week's first leg of their 2017 African Nations Cup double header, recalled how he was dazed by the calibre of players he walked into on his first day at the Chelsea dressing room.

"I came into the dressing room that day literally shaking," Mikel recalls. "I saw the players that were in there – the likes ofJohn Terry, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Claude Makelele, Geremi, Michael Essien, Michael Ballack, Andriy Shevchenko – it was crazy. And I was just 19," he said.

"I was shaking the whole day because I couldn’t talk to any of them. I didn’t know what to say to guys like that. They were really nice guys, but it was scary. It can be tough coming into a dressing room like that as a younger player. You had to earn the right to be among them‎.

REVEALED! England Plot To Snatch Iwobi From Nigeria

Alex-iwobi

The English FA are still making efforts to snatch Arsenal starlet Alex Iwobi from Nigeria, the Mirror claims.

The impressive Iwobi, who only recently became an Arsenal regular, has already played for the Super Eagles, but the matches were friendlies and he can still switch to England if he wants to.

The 19-year-old has started three of Arsenal’s last four games and capped his full Premier League debut at Everton on Saturday with a man-of-the-match display and his first Gunners goal.

Iwobi played for the England’s Under-16, U17 and U18 sides before the nephew of Austin Jaj Jay Okocha chose to represent his parents' country Nigeria.

The forward was first invited to play for Nigeria U-23s by Samson Siasia, who is now senior interim coach, but the paperwork for the switch from England to Nigeria was not completed before the match.

However, Iwobi is expected to make his competitive debut for Nigeria on Friday after being named in the squad for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double header against Egypt.

If Iwobi plays the match, or the return leg in Alexandria on Tuesday, he would be permanently tied down by Nigeria.

The Mirror says this has prompted desperate late attempts from the FA to try to get Iwobi to change his mind.

There is no suggestion Iwobi will be fast-tracked into the senior England set-up and handed a premature call-up.

FA chiefs do see him as a potential future Three Lions international and know their hopes of landing him will be dashed if he plays in Nigeria’s upcoming games.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has backed up the FA’s views on Iwobi by giving the youngster a glowing reference.

He is understood to have told the FA the player has a big future at the North Londoners and, having let him get away once, they should do everything possible to try to get him back.

Balogun Injured, Doubtful For Nigeria, Egypt Clashes

balogun-Mainz

By Adeboye Amosu:

Nigeria defender, Leon Balogun, has emerged as an  injury doubt for the country's 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt, Completesportsnigeria.com  can report.

His German club, FSV Mainz, announced the player has picked up a muscular injury which ruled him out of Saturday's game against Werder Bremen.

"Leon Balogun has picked a muscular injury and didn't travel to Bremen. Get well soon,'' the Bundesliga side wrote on their Twitter handleon Saturday.

Balogun was initially left out from  the list of overseas-based players called up by Super Eagles caretaker boss, Samson Siasia, for the games, but was later handed an invitation to be part of the squad due to his impressive club form.

On Friday, Turkey-based centre-back Kenneth Omeruo pulled out of the squad due to a groin injury which will sideline him for the next two weeks.

Nigeria will host Egypt at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Friday, March 25.
The return fixture is billed for Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria four days later.

Enough! Taiwo Cautions Eagles Stars Against Bragging To Beat Egypt

taiye-taiwo

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Former Super Eagles left-back, Taye Taiwo has sounded a note of caution to the Eagles stars who are billed to play against the Pharaohs of Egypt in the 2017 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers in Kaduna and Alexandria, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

As the double header of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers approach, Super Eagles stars who have been invited for the game by interim coach, Samson Siasia, have taken to different media platforms to express their readiness for the games.

The idea of talking tough, Taiwo insists in a chat with Completesportsnigeria.com, must be left on the field of play next week Friday and four days later in Egypt as the Egyptians are no mincemeat for Nigeria.

"I like the enthusiasm being expressed by the players (Samson) Siasia has invited for the matches. But it is Egypt we are playing against and not one small country," the HJK Helsinki defender who played 11 league games for his Finnish side in the 2015 season told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"I would prefer them to do the talking with their performance on the field. Egypt is a strong African football country. They have not won the Africa Cup of Nations for a while and with a coach like Hector Cuper in charge, they will surely not be rolled over. Why not work hard in training and stop talking tough. Are the Egyptians also boasting," Taiwo asked rhetorically.

"At the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations which Egypt hosted and won, some of the locals wanted us to play their team, though that did not happen. I'm excited myself but we must respect the Egyptian side too.

"If you ask my advise to the team, it will be to talk less and work hard, doing what coach Samson Siasia wants from them," the former Olympique Marseille, AC Milan, Dynamo Kiev and Bursaspor defender who was voted as the best left back of the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations by the Technical Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) further stressed.

The home-based Eagles have intensified preparations for the crucial qualifiers and will be joined by the foreign legion next week.

Who Will Win The 2017 Africa Cup Of Nations?

FBL-AFR-2017-CAN-DRAW

In January, 15 nations will head to Gabon to compete in the 31st edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. In previous years, there have always been one or two leading candidates but this time, qualification is proving exceptionally hard to predict and almost anybody can win next year’s tournament if they step up to the plate. We take a look at just two of the potential winners and discuss why these sides can go all the way in the competition.

Firstly, Nigeria are currently struggling to inspire confidence but they have the individual talent to build around and may fancy their chances of a shock victory. In 2013, Nigeria were crowned Africa Cup of Nations as they earned a 1-0 victory over Burkina-Faso and interim head coach Samson Siasia will be hoping his side can take inspiration from their previous success.

Nigeria’s troubles started around the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and they haven’t really responded since. However, they are on the cusp of qualification and at least one victory from a double-header with Egypt should see them pick up enough points to make the tournament. From there, it’s anyone’s guess. If the Super Eagles find their best form, why can’t they go on to win the competition?

In addition, Ivory Coast are another one of Africa’s major players and they should be treated with caution throughout both qualifying and the actual competition providing they reach next January’s tournament. Although they’ve lost a number of key personalities, including Kolo Toure, Didier Drogba and goalkeeper Boubacar Barry, in recent years, they remain a solid, well-oiled team and could well reach the latter stages of the competition.

The Ivory Coast gave a decent account of themselves at the World Cup in Brazil but fell short at the crucial moment. They will be looking to reassert themselves as one of Africa’s top nations next year and who knows, Didier Drogba may even return in some capacity in the future. For now, Yaya Toure will have to lead the way to Gabon.

If you simply cannot wait for next year’s tournament, you can get your sporting fix playing online games such as Football Frenzy or other sport games with different playing styles at Springbok Casino. You will genuinely feel like you’re playing alongside your sporting heroes in next January’s tournament on Football Frenzy and who knows, you may even make a decent profit whilst enjoying their wide range of games.

Can either Nigeria or the Ivory Coast win the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations? Of course they can. Whilst both sides may be past their heydays, they are still competent footballing nations and it would be foolish to write either team off. For now, they should focus on qualification but we fully expect both nations to qualify and from there, Nigeria and Ivory Coast fans can start to get excited at their chances.

2017 AFCON: Akpeyi Optimistic About Super Eagles’ Slot

Daniel Akpeyi-05

By Johnny Edward:

Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is confident the Super Eagles will upstage the Pharaohs of Egypt when both teams clash later this month in a crucial 2017 AFCON qualifier in Kaduna.

The former Warri Wolves shot -stopper who is delighted to be back in the squad after being overlooked by erstwhile coach Sunday Oliseh, said the players invited for the game are capable of bagging six points from both ties.

"It's good to be back in the squad after almost a year out," Akpeyi told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"The game against Egypt is an important one to us and we must win, firstly at home, to stand a chance going into the reverse tie in Alexandria.

"They (Egypt) have good outfield players, but I'm confident of the players invited by coach Siasia to get the job done for us."

Nigeria on four points after two games currently trail Egypt, who have maximum 6 points from two games in Group G.

Echiejile Warns Eagles Teammates: “Egypt’ll Be Huge challenge”

eche

By Johnny Edward:

AS Monaco defender, Elderson Echiejile, is under no illusions about the task of facing the Pharaohs of Egypt later this month in their two-legged 2017 African Nations Cup qualifiers in Kaduna and Alexanderia, branding it "a huge challenge".

The 28 year old is the only surviving player of the 2010 squad that beat the Harambee Stars of Kenya 3-2 at the Kasarani stadium to pick the sole ticket for the World Cup in South Africa having trailed Tunisia in the group. A feat the former Stade Rennes and SC Braga star believes could also serve as a motivation against the Hector Cuper side who he says are beatable.

"We have had big one-off games in the past and responded well. I believe we can do that again on this month in Kaduna and inAlexandria against Egypt, Echiejile told Completesportsnigeria.com.‎

"We have to be on our game to s and I have confidence in the players to do it."

"Credit to Egypt, but we can beat them if we are on our game.We know that, and we just have to get our heads down for the game.

The Monaco defender also warns that the new look Samson Siasia's side cannot afford to repeat their insipid showing in recent games against a technically gifted Egyptian side.

"They are very technically intelligent. The Egyptian teams I have played against all seemed to have that individually.

"They have great players up front – I've watched them a few times. Mohammed Salah's form is amazing – his all-round game and‎ his finishing. And the other players we all know about anyway.

"In Elneny and Moteb, they have two fantastic midfield players. I can't speak highly enough of them actually. Elneny has come on and really impressed at Arsenal in the few games he has played. It's going to be a battle ground because they are very strong in there."

"Of course, I know it will not be easy to get a starting place because of the quality of strikers in the team, but God knows the best.
