Chikatara Celebrates Wydad CAF CL Progress Wants To Face Enyimba

Chikatara21

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Abia Warriors and Super Eagles striker Chisom Chikatara is excited following the qualification of Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca to the group stages of the CAF Champions League at the expense of champions TP Mazembe, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Title-holders TP Mazembe were eliminated from the CAF Champions League on Wednesday after drawing 1-1 at home to Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.

The result, coupled with a 2-0 last 16 first leg loss in North Africa, meant the five-time champions lost 3-1 on aggregate and were demoted to the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Nigerian star at the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda in January also expressed excitement at seeing two-time CAF Champions League winners  Enyimba reach the group stage after defeating Etoile du Sahel.

"Congratulations to Wydad Casablanca. I'm happy to be presented with the chance to play with them in the group stages of the Champions League," Chikatara told Completesportsnigeria.com on Thursday.

"I'm with Abia Warriors at the moment with an agreement to return to Wydad next season. By the grace of God, everything will go as planned.

"At the moment, I'm concentrating on my duties at Abia Warriors. I've scored three goals in five matches and there's more hopefully. I will return to Wydad between June and July.

"I was also happy for Enyimba as Nigeria's representatives. Everybody was tense when Etoile made it 3-0 on aggregate, but thankfully they made it.

"I look forward to playing against Enyimba in the group stages. It could happen, you never know. I will exchange jerseys with Peter Onyekachi."

The draw for the group stages of the CAF Champions League group stages will hold on May 24 in Cairo, Egypt.

Salami Opens Koupion Account, Egwuekwe Scores Own Goal

unnamed (1)

By Johnny Edward:

Nigerian striker Gbolahan Salami opened his goal-scoring account for his Finnish side Kuopion Palloseura in their 3-2 loss at home to PK-35 Vantaa on Thursday.

Salami who was making his second start in the Veikkausliga restored parity for his side in the 11th minute after Aleksi Ristola had given the visitors a sixth minute lead.

But an own goal from his compatriot Azubuike Egwuekwe in the 36th minute saw the visitors take the lead again.

Mateo Miguez scored the winner in the 40th minute from the spot for Vantaa. Kuopion fought back in the second half and scored from the spot through Petteri Pennanen but that didn't stop them from losing their second game.

Another Nigerian Aliyu Abubakar was also in action for Kuopion while Paul Onobi was not listed for the encounter.

At the Rovaniemen Keskuskenttä stadium, the trio of Nnamdi Oduamadi, Taye Taiwo and Paul Onovo all featured from start as HJK were held to a 2-2 draw away to RoPS.

The Nigerian trio have all played three games respectively with only Onovo getting on the score sheet.

Iwobi: I Can Never Forget My First Arsenal Goal

Alex Iwobi

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Nigerian youngster Alex Iwobi has described his first senior goal for Arsenal against Everton as a “crazy moment" that helped him settle into the Gunners team.

The Super Eagles forward has scored twice and claimed three assists in his first three Arsenal starts of a breakthrough season.

Iwobi bared his mind to Arsenal Player on how he felt with the strike in the Gunners' 2-0 win just before the international break when he made his competitive Nigeria debut.

“That moment was crazy," he told Arsenal Player.

“When Hector got the ball and I saw the space, I just tried to sprint for my life.

“Thank God Hector found me, I got the ball and scored. I can’t describe the feeling, I started losing my head and the celebration.
I don’t know where that came from, but I’m sticking with it now!

“The best way to describe it is that it’s my number [45], and the Gunners [are] Arsenal.

"I was just excited and also my friends told me to do something crazy, so it was for them.

“I already felt at home [in the team] but that goal made me a bit more confident, made me try a few more things and made me feel a bit more relaxed so I was happy to get it.”

The 19-year-old forward has received glowing tributes from Nigerians for his exceptional talents, especially his uncle, Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha, and former African Footballer of the Year, Nwankwo Kanu.

Kanu: Foreign Or Nigerian Coach, NFF Must Improve; Eagles Shouldn’t Miss 2018 W/Cup

Kanu Nwankwo

Former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu believes there are lots of crisis in Nigeria’s house of football. The Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games gold medal winning Dream Team captain reflects on Nigeria’s ouster in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, saying it was a case of a house divided against itself.

In this exclusive interview with Completesportsnigeria.com's SAB OSUJI from Kenya, Papilo also speaks about his mission in the East African nation and Kanu Heart Foundation, among other salient issues. Kanu advises that the NFF Should  engage a substantive Super Eagles coach immediately, so as to begin early preparations for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Excerpts…

__________________________________________

Super Eagles will not feature at the 2017 Nations Cup in Gabon after failing to beat Egypt in the qualifiers in Kaduna  and Alexandria. What a massive blow for Nigerian football for the country to miss the tournament twice in a row…‎

Kanu:(Cuts in) I'm a Nigerian, a patriotic one for that matter. I'm the number one fan of the Super Eagles. I played and ‎captained the Eagles and right now I'm the Ambassador of the team. I've been right behind the team since I retired,

supporting them and working very hard to encourage them. I was in South Africa during the Nations Cup in 2013 like I have always been in virtually all their match venues. I even go to the dressing room and after the coach has given them instructions, I would tell them what I've seen in the game so far, so I've supported them all the time. Thank God we won the Cup eventually. But right after that, things went so bad that FIFA wanted to ban us but thank God they didn't after all.

Things are not going in the right direction. I don't know what has gone wrong. Our Federation needs to do a lot more. What's playing out right now is not healthy for the game to move forward. You don't have a crucial game in a

matter of weeks and you begin to see coaches going and coming, it’s not the best. It's so painful we lost to Egypt. It's more painful we're not going to the Nations Cup in Gabon next year. It is terrible this is coming on the back of our inability to qualify for the 2015 tournament in Equatorial Guinea. It's unfortunate. You don't achieve success when there is rancour, bitterness, acrimony and lack of unity in the house. Things really have to change for the better.

Recently you were quoted in the media blaming NFF for all that  happened. Can you shed more light on this?

Well, let us not deceive ourselves; things are not moving the way they are supposed to in the Federation (NFF). There are lots of back-biting, blackmail and all that. This is wrong. Football is a team game. It's administration should also be seen as a team work. The leader should work with every member or stakeholder there. Whoever that is there, work with him. Yes, the Federation (NFF) had their own issues, but the players also should do their jobs. Your focus should be on the game, giving it above 100 per cent. I saw the games in Kaduna and Alexandria, the players; yes they played well but lost concentration at critical moments in the games. Every player coming into the Super Eagles should understand that Nigerian national team is not an easy place to come and ride and go home. It is a place you really work hard to be; it’s a place that when you put on that green and white jersey, it means so much more than just a team jersey, so you have to make sacrifice and you have to give everything. But like I said, it is the Federation, NFF that will have to make them feel like that. This has to go across board, from the coaching staff to the players.

Now NFF are insisting on hiring a foreign coach as replacement for Sunday Oliseh. They insist they are done with Nigerian indigenous coaches. What's your take on this?

Foreign coach or local coach, whichever one they want to bring, they should remember that this is Nigeria, giant of Africa. After you mention Brazil or Spain or Germany or England, Nigeria comes up. We have the talent or players. That's why every expatriate coach wants to come here and work because they know we have the players that will make the job easier for them.

Like I said earlier, it is not about foreign or local coach. The most important thing is that the NFF must know how to work with a coach. They must know how to support and encourage a coach.

Emmanuel Amuneke is very good, at least you can see that talents that are coming out from his team. Samson Siasia is also good and you can see what he's been doing with the Olympic team, the Super Eagles and even the Flying Eagles. You saw how promptly the players reported to camp for the games against Egypt. So, it is more about NFF knowing how to work with their coaches rather than whether the coach is white, black or red.

Bearing in mind the current crisis in our house of football, don't you think it may affect our 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification, especially given the fact that draws for the qualifiers will be made in June?

It is important we begin early to focus our minds on the World Cup, preparations should start early enough. It’s too olate to continue to dwell on the lost 2017 AFCON ticket. This is the  time for us to know our players, our coach and let them start their work. The administrative arm, NFF, should support them and once this is done, we won't have any reason to fear about qualifying for the Mundial. If it is for players, we have good players; if it's down to whether these players can do the job, yes, they are excellent players. All that I keep on saying is that all these issues here and there won't help anybody. Let us start preparation early enough and we'll achieve result. Let us get a coach, let him start his work and all of us stand behind him and the team, surely result will come.

You were called by Arsene Wenger to come and welcome Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze to Arsenal and make them feel at home when the two Nigerian teenagers arrived London ahead of the contract talks with the Gunners. What is the significance of that role?

First, I’m an Arsenal Legend. You know I played for Arsenal during my playing days. In addition, I'm an Ambassador for Nigerian Football. So being called upon to play whatever role for young Nigerian players coming up, for me, is not

something special. It’s not something I can say no to. I'm proud of them and I'm happy making a positive impact in their careers. If there is any role I can play for Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze to further their careers, I will do

that without hesitation.

Let's talk about Alex Iwobi. Are you not surprised that at just 19 years old, he has broken into Arsenal first team and even scored in his first two English Premier League starts of the season?

I'm not surprised about Iwobi's rapid progress. I saw him during Arsenal's pre season. He has the talent, he can do wonders in his career. Age is on his side and with concentration, the sky will just be his stepping stone. This is one

of the things Arsene Wenger does, giving the young players opportunities to showcase what they have. And Iwobi has grabbed his own chance and is doing well. I'm happy for him.

What actually took you to Kenya from where you are speaking with me right now?

I'm an Ambassador for StarTimes. I'm here to do promotional work for them and also that of the Kanu Heart Foundation, KHF. We want to promote the game and  StarTimes digital television at the grassroots level in Africa. That's why I'm here.

Do you think StarTimes can favourably compete with other pay television cable providers around the continent and the  World in general?

Why not? Already they have the television broadcast rights of the German Bundesliga and Italian Serie A. Nigerians love football and that's why I'm pushing them so they can as well be a part of Nigerian football. Besides, the StarTimes television subscription service is affordable for everybody to buy.

Congratulations, your club Papilo FC have emerged champions of this year's Imo state FA Cup.

Thank you very much.

How delighted are you about this landmark achievement, given the fact they are just an academy team that defeated a professional side like Heartland FC in the final?

I'm very happy; I've been receiving a lot of phone calls from people congratulating me because of the club and this aachievement. The good thing is that the club is an academy as well as a football club, so I'm happy they are doing very well. But then, I must say it’s not an easy task. They went out there, did their job and won the game.

Last year, Papilo FC lost in the Imo FA Cup final but still reached the Round of 16 of the Federation Cup. Do you see them matching or surpassing that performance this time around?

We always work and pray for improvement in anything we do in life. Like you said, last year, we lost to Heartland in the

final and now we beat them in the final. It shows there is progress. With this, we'll go and represent the state at the national level. Who knows, yeah, we can reach there or even go  beyond that stage.

What inspired your decision to float this team or the academy?

It was primarily established to provide a platform for the youths to discover their talents, hone such talents and progressively make a living out of it. And I'm happy the club is playing this role effectively, given the fact that some

youngsters have attained national and international heights through the Papilo FC. Don't forget too that I played the

game, so I know what I'm talking about.

How easy has it been running the club?

It has not been easy. As an individual, no sponsor behind us, we've been going on, knocking on different doors, it's been difficult, but all the same, I'm driven by the passion I have for the game and desire to give back to the society.

The society wants us to come home and invest, which is what I'm doing. We have the club, with an academy of 15 to 17 years old players and we're moving on. I've been doing this for years, putting my money down in what I believe in.

You also intimated us about the Kanu Residential Camp in Canada coming up in August. What's the level of response  towards the program?

The responses have been wonderful. People are registering, especially kids from schools who want to be in that Canada Camp to learn more. Like I said, I wanted us to make sure that the camp is not only in Nigeria but everywhere. From Nigeria, one can go to camp in Canada, United Kingdom and America. You can also come for the camp from the United States of America to Nigeria, that's the way I'm seeing it. It's also good that, like I know, travelling is one of the best forms of education. You go out, see new places, new people; new environments, and the more you mix up, you learn more. These are part of what the Kanu Residential Canada Camp has set out to achieve and we're making a headway.

Yet in all of these, the Kanu Heart Foundation is still waxing stronger. Can you give us an update on the Foundation?

As you know, things are very difficult in the land, but I want to let you know that the Kanu Heart Foundation has successfully carried out 500 heart surgeries so far. Yet we still have so many patients on the waiting list. Right now, I've

been to Uganda where I visited some hospitals and saw some kids operated upon and I offered my words of encouragement.

If we have such a hospital here, it will be great, it will help reduce costs, it will encourage us to do more. Right now, Kanu Heart Foundation is partnering with that hospital in Uganda. I'm also in Kenya, doing some grassroots work. I also

went to a hospital in Kenya to see what they have over there and also to be part of what they are doing. So what I'm trying to do is as much as possible, to open more doors for the Foundation and  work out partnership arrangements with other hospitals.

Echiejile Backs Monaco For Champions League Spot Despite Defeat

eche

By Johnny Edward:

Super Eagles defender‎ Elderson Echiejile says Monaco were unlucky to have lost 2-1 at home to Ligue 1 relegation battlers Bordeaux who did a double on the Les Douges on Friday.

It was Monaco's first ‎defeat in their last nine games and Echiejile is still confident of a second place Ligue 1 finish despite their five-point gap on third place being cut short to two in the race for one remaining automatic qualifying place for the UEFA Champions League group stage.

‎"It was a painful loss and the fact that it's the third time Monaco are losing to Bordeaux this season," Echiejile told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"But I'm confident that we will finish second and qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season."

Echiejile also remarked that the Super Eagles ouster from the 2017 AFCON‎ could be a catalyst for the team's performance in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

"We disappointed many and I believe the lesson‎ learnt will help stay stronger as a group when the World Cup qualifier begins," he added.

Moses Expects Emotional Return To Crystal Palace

victor-moses2

Victor Moses has stated that it will be an emotional game for him when West Ham entertain his former club Crystal Palace in this weekend's English Premier League clash.

Moses, who is on loan to Champions League chasing West Ham from Chelsea, made his debut for Palace aged 16 in 2007.

He went on to make 69 appearances for the London-based team.

In an interview on West Ham's official website, Moses however said despite his link with Palace, he hopes West Ham secure the three points.

“It is always emotional when I play against Crystal Palace," Moses said. "I started there when I was young and progressed from from the youth team into the first-team.

“I have lots of good memories there and the staff and manager always looked after me. I really enjoyed my time at Palace.

“My old team-mates like Sean Scannell call me and ask me how I feel about facing my old club but that is part of football.

“The most important thing now is that I am a West Ham player and we just need to concentrate on making sure we get the three points. We are looking good in training and we need to keep doing what we are good at.

“Crystal Palace will want the victory on Saturday and I am sure they will be doing everything to stay in the Premier League. They will come to the Boleyn Ground and will want to express themselves.

“But we need to focus on our tactics and try to stop them as we look to come away with the victory and get into the top four.”

He added: “Selhurst Park is not an easy place to go as Palace have quality players and they were flying at the time, but we managed to come away with a 3-1 win.

“We had good spirit and momentum and it was a great game for us. I am sure they will want revenge but we are ready for the task and we are looking forward to the game.”

Lawal: Players’ Poor Commitment Cost Nigeria AFCON Ticket

FullSizeRender

By James Agberebi:‎

Former Nigeria international, Garba Lawal, has attributed the Super Eagles ouster from next year's Africa Cup of Nations to the inability of the players to go the extra mile in crucial games, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.‎

Nigeria's chances of making it to the 2017 AFCON was finally extinguished after they lost 1-0 to Egypt in Alexandria on Tuesday.

The win gave Egypt five unassailable points lead over the Eagles who have just two points.

In a chat with Completesportsnigeria.com, Lawal posited that the failure of the players to lift their games when expected, cost the team.

"It is all about sacrifice. I remember the goal Victor Ikpeba scored against Egypt in Cairo during the qualifiers for the 1996 Olympic Games. I don't know how he managed to score that brilliant goal," Lawal told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"And that is what you should expect from players, that extra quality in crucial games. As a player you have to lift yourself collectively and individually."

The four-time AFCON player, rued the thought of Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho not having the opportunity to showcase their talent at Africa's biggest showpiece.

"We all saw the jubilation of the Egyptians, it shows the importance of going to a big tournament and you will agree with me that the Africa Cup of Nations is the biggest in Africa.

"It is a competition every player would want to add to his CV. I pity the young players like Iheanacho and Iwobi. That is why players have to do extra.

He added: "As a player, there is a stage you will get to in football, you have to show extra quality and commitment. You have to show that you are hungry and you want to win.

"In the past, we used to see Nigerian players with injury but still giving their all. So this is the kind of thing we want to see, but we don't see it these days.

"That is why our fans keep on asking what was it that we did during our days that produced results. And I keep asking myself, "is it that they don't want to keep legacies for themselves"‎?

solomon dalung

"I personally apologise to Nigerians for the inability of the Super Eagles to qualify for the campaign to AFCON," Dalung wrote on Twitter handle.

"We have no good reason not to qualify if we had planned well and also organised ourselves, rather it was crisis all the way rocking the NFF.

"After this abysmal performance at AFCON qualifiers, it's important we return to the drawing board to plan for the future of football in Nigeria.

"Nigerians cannot accept any reason for failure from anybody so we either deliver or we give way to those who can deliver success."

Egypt Coach, Cuper: We Had Tough Time Against Nigeria

Hector Cuper

Hector Cuper has stated that Egypt had a torrid time against the Super Eagles in Tuesday's 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Alexandria.

A 65th minute goal by Ramadan Sobhy, gave the Pharaohs a 1-0 win and on the brink of qualifying for the AFCON after missing the last three editions.

The defeat ruined Nigeria's chances of qualifying for the AFCON after missing last edition in Equatorial Guinea.

According to kingfut.com, Cuper said they had a tough second half after starting well in the first half, and almost conceded a goal.

"We played very well in the first half. The second half was not as good as the first, but that normally happens when you come against a tough opponent like Nigeria.

"We threatened the Nigerians with many counter-attacks, but were unlucky to finish them. We also could have conceded a goal during the match," Cuper said.

Cuper expressed his delight that Egypt are close to making a return to the AFCON. He also hailed his players for the victory against Nigeria.

"I am very happy that we are on the verge of qualification to the African Cup of Nations. I am especially proud of manging this group of players who fought on the pitch for 90 minutes to secure the win for Egypt," Cuper stated.

Loscuito Backs Eagles Against Egypt, Won’t Rule Out Tanzania

Jean Francois Loscuito

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Former Super Eagles assistant coach Jean Francois Loscuito has urged the Nigerian national side not to relent in their pursuit of a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations ticket.

Samson Siasia leads the Super Eagles out against Egypt in the reverse leg of their AFCON qualifier at the Borg El-Arab Stadium, Alexandria on Tuesday needing a win to stand a chance of qualifying for the tournament in Gabon next year following the withdrawal of Chad from the qualification series from Group G.

Loscuito spoke with Completesportsnigeria.com on his thoughts from the game which kicks off 6pm Nigerian time.

"Most Nigerians that I've spoken with seem to believe that the Super Eagles cannot qualify now after the 1-1 in Kaduna," the Belgian said.

"I do not understand that reaction. Unfortunately there are two games left now with the withdrawal of Chad but I strongly believe Nigeria can win away in Egypt; there is still hope, no problem."

Loscuito stressed that despite not working as assistant coach of the Eagles anymore, he still has the interest of the national team and Nigeria in mind.

"Of course I want Nigeria to defeat Egypt despite not working there anymore. I pray God gives Nigeria victory. I also do not see Tanzania losing to Egypt in both sides' next game," the one-time ASFA Yenanga of Burkina Faso coach told Completesportsnigeria.com.

Loscuito concluded by saying that all players of the Super Eagles are leaders in their own rights and must raise their games when the decisive match starts.

"Mikel Obi may officially be team captain but no matter who is the captain, the most important thing is the victory.

"On such days, we are all captains and must fight 100% for our country," Loscuito admonished.

Amuneke: Eagles Can’t Afford Silly Mistakes In Alexandria

Amuneke

By James Agberebi:

Emmanuel Amuneke has predicted a tough encounter between the Super Eagles and Egypt in Tuesday 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Alexandria.

The Eagles were forced to a 1-1 draw by the Egyptians in Kaduna on Friday.

And they must secure the three points on Tuesday to stand a realisitc chance of qualifying for the 2017 AFCON.

Speaking with cafonline.com, Amuneke called on the Eagles players to avoid committing silly mistakes whuch cost them in the first leg.

"From experience, Egyptians are very passionate about football and I'm not surprised the game will be played in Alexandria in order to guarantee maximum support,” Amuneke, who played club football in Egypt for Zamalek,  said.

“The game on Tuesday would be different from last Friday’s (in Kaduna) where we unfortunately conceded a late goal. It's going to be tougher.

“We would have to apply a lot of wisdom and cannot afford some of the mistakes we made in Kaduna. I wouldn't subscribe to the notion that we were tactically naive against Egypt in Kaduna because that was a match we would have won with some luck.

“In football, you don't talk about what should have been but we are going to Alexandria with optimism and we would use our strength positively.”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has informed that the Super Eagles would not be lacking fans' support in Alexandria on Tuesday with arrangements in place to ferry the team, government officials as well as fans for the decisive encounter.

By Adeboye Amosu:

The Wolverhampton Wanderers goalie is ruled out of the game billed for the Borg El- Arab Stadium in Alexandria due to ill- health.
Agu, a member of the Super Eagles squad that won the AFCON title  in Tunisia in 1994, informed Completesportsnigeria.com that the duo of South Africa-based shot-stopper Daniel AKpeyi and Sunshine Stars' Ikechukwu  Ezenwa are good enough to take the place of Ikeme in the game.

"We are disappointed that Ikeme will not be part of the game in Alexandria," Agu told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"He is a top class goalkeeper and a very reliable one too.

"But in Daniel and Ezenwa we  have two quality goalkeepers who are good enough to step in against Egypt.

"We believe in them and there is no need to panic."

Adepoju Backs Super Eagles To Beat Egypt

FullSizeRender (5)

By James Agberebi:

Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju is confident that the Super Eagles can get a win against Egypt in Alexandria on Tuesday.

The Eagles need an outright win against the Pharaohs to stand a chance of qualifying for next year's Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

In the reverse leg which was played on Friday in Kaduna, a late Mohamed Salah goal earned Egypt a 1-1 draw.

Adepoju told Completesportsnigeria.com that the unpredictability of football could favour the Eagles.

"It is a very tight and difficult situation in which the Eagles find themselves. But I believe we can still scale through because in football anything can happen.

"I just hope the players have the belief to go there and play well," Adepoju told Completesportsnigeria.com.

The former Real Sociedad player, however, warned that the Eagles must maintain a high level of focus.

He also urged them to try and convert goal scoring opportunities that come their way.

Adepoju added: "Their concentration level has to be high because that one of their undoing on Friday.

"They should try everything possible to make sure every opportunity that they get are converted.

"In the first leg, they had chances which would have sealed the win unfortunately they could only score one. So in Tuesday's game, I expect them to try as much as possible to convert the chances that they get."

Amuzie: Eagles Unlcky In Kaduna, Will Beat Egypt In Alexandria

images (77)

By Johnny Edward:

Olhanese of Portugal defender Stanley Amuzie is confident the Super Eagles can still qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations despite their 1-1 draw against Egypt in Kaduna last Friday.

The Eagles now have two points and Egypt four following Chad's withdrawal from the qualifying rounds and Samson Siasia's men must now beat the Pharoahs and Tanzania to seal a place in next year's African Nations Cup.

And Amuzie who is likely to keep his place in the team when they take on the group leaders in Tuesday's's crucial reverse fixture told Completesportsnigeria.com that all hopes are still not lost.

"We know what we need to do which is to win our remaining two games to qualify for the Nations Cup," Amuzie said.

"We were just unlucky not to have won but we will make amends."

Amuzie who made his debut in the encounter also shared his experience marking Mohammed Salah.

"What hurt me most is that didn't win not because Salah scored," he added. "Prior to the game there was much talk about him but he was relatively quiet until that moment he scored.

"We have to take our chances and I believe we won't disappoint."

The Super Eagles are expected to depart later Monday for Alexandra, Egypt for the reverse fixture of this tie.
