Boko Haram suspects reportedly
stormed Kukawa town, Borno State,
on October 27, killing several people
and destroying property.
The terrorists invaded the historical town the early
morning of Monday, killed 3 civilians and set ablaze
popular buildings, including the headquarters of
Kukawa LGA and a police station, Punch reports.
According to a residents, the attack lasted for the
whole day, until 10pm.
One of the locals identified as Mallam Modu said
that the sect members entered the town in Hilux
vehicles and motorcycles and continued:
"The insurgents razed down the
Kukawa Divisional Police station and
some public buildings in the town. I
cannot tell the casualty figure
because we had to flee the town to
save our lives."
Another witness, Modu Mohammed, narrated how
people were running away in fear for their lives,
adding that 3 were murdered.
It has been learnt that many other buildings, with
private houses among them, were also burnt.
The Caretaker Chairman of Kukawa LGA confirmed
the incident, the killings and the damage, adding that
more than 300 vehicles were burnt down.
This raid comes as another disappointment after the
news broke out October 17 that the Nigerian
authorities and Boko Haram had allegedly concluded
a ceasefire agreement
. According to the information provided the sect was
also to free Chibok girls, abducted in April. The
release was highly awaited yesterday, October 27,
but the good new never came. The post-agreement
week was also marked by several ghastly attacks by
the sect.
