The incident happened in the course of the APC
presidential campaign rally in the state capital
Maiduguri.
According to Premium Times, thousands of APC
supporters chanting pro-Buhari slogans went to
the streets of Maiduguri and started bringing down
the PDP billboards.
Despite the fact that soldiers tried to take control
over the situation, hours later smoke was seen
some 500 meters way from the venue of the rally.
The youth stormed their opponents' major office,
UTC, armed with petrol jars and set it on fire, said
the witnesses.
A police officer commented on the situation:
"We tried everything in our powers as permitted of
us during riots to stop them, but the young men
came in their hundreds and our men had to retreat
because we do not intend to use excess force to
stop them. It was really very sad."
Another tragedy from the same venue was reported
previously: at least 6 people died and many others
were injured in the rally stampede
