The Federal Government on Wednesday ordered airline operators not to take advantage of the Sallah rush by travellers to exploit the passengers.
It also assured Nigerians at home and those on pilgrimage to Mecca of smooth flight operations during and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Aviation, Mrs. Binta Bello, gave the assurance in a statement issued by the ministry in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to Bello, all agencies of the ministry had been directed to ensure safe and uninterrupted flight operations at all Nigerian airports, with particular emphasis on promptness of flights, safety and security of air passengers.
“She also charged airline operators not to use the usual rush to exploit travellers, and to make their operations more passenger-centred with serious attention to flight availability, timeliness, comfort of passengers and safe practices,” the ministry said in the statement.
The permanent secretary said the safety of Nigeria’s airports had been confirmed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation during its recent security audit of the nation’s aviation facilities.
She said the collaboration between aviation security and other relevant agencies had resulted in a robust and an almost unassailable security setup at the airports.
On the return of pilgrims from Mecca, Bello noted that with the ministry’s close collaboration with the National Hajj Commission, airline operators and the Saudi authorities, the return trips would be safe, smooth and on schedule.
