Wike to pay disbanded traffic agency’s workers’ salary

RIVERS State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has promised to address the issue of unpaid salaries of former workers of the disbanded State Traffic Management Agency also known as TIMARIV.

Wike, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, was reacting to the demonstration of the former employees of the erstwhile traffic agency.

The governor recalled that the non-payment of TIMARIV’s staff salaries could be traced to the immediate past administration’s inability to manage state resources.

He urged the protesters to be patient, promising that he would never abandon his responsibilities as the governor of the state.

“I understand the rationale behind the demonstration by members of the disbanded TIMARIV. However, it is pertinent to state that this salary issue is a problem bequeathed to Governor Wike by the immediate past administration of Rotimi Amaechi.

“Notwithstanding, let me dissolve the fears of the protesters by assuring them that the governor is a very sensitive man and will do something to palliate the asperities occasioned by the non-payment of their salaries.

He, however, pointed out that it was not possible to address all monetary issues at the same time due to the paucity of funds.

The governor also recalled that he had been able to pay workers’ salaries and pensioners’ allowances to date while ministries had begun to receive overheads.
