The fairy tale of Nigeria’s D’Tigress was last night brought to an end as host Cameroon stalled Nigeria’s dream of picking the automatic ticket for the basketball event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games in a tension filled game that ended 71-70 to give the Lionesses a berth in the final billed for today.
The Nigerian girls began the game on a fast and impressive style winning the first quarter 23-15 but the Cameroonians cheered on by the home fans rallied back to take the second quarter at 21-13. With scores at 36-36 at the end of the first half both sides came back fighting with Nigeria managing a 15-13 win of the third quarter but the game turned around for the Cameroonian girls as they scored 22 more points as against Nigeria’s 19.
Ramses Lonlark led the floor for Cameroon with 20 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists and was followed by Amina Njonkou 14 points and 16 rebounds while Nnenna Elonu led the floor for Nigeria with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists.
