Bad attitude, not spirits, causes accident —FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps has asked motorists to have a change of attitude towards road safety, saying bad attitude and not spiritual manipulation causes accidents.

The Zonal Commanding Officer of Zone RS2, ACM, Nseobong Akpabio, said this on Friday while addressing captains of industries, special marshals, the military, para-military agencies and other stakeholders in Ota, Ogun State.

Akpabio, who was in company with some other senior officers of the corps, later visited the Olota of Ota, Oba Moshood Adetaro, before addressing officers and men of the RS2.22, Ota unit command.

The FRSC boss said he was in Ota to interact with staff and stakeholders to improve on service delivery.

He told the gathering that there was need to arrest the menace of Road Traffic Collision, RTC.

He said, “The need to arrest the menace of RTC is sacrosanct, as people die daily on our roads. You should eat, drink, sleep and dream of road safety.

“There are no spiritual manipulations in accidents. To reduce RTCs, we need a complete change of attitude in the way motorists use the roads.”

While quoting from Genesis 1:28, where God commanded man to multiply, the zonal commander regretted that instead of multiplying, man had continually been depopulating the earth by totally disregarding traffic rules, leading to many deaths.

The Area Commander, Ogun State Police Command, Sango, ACP Fakayode Adegoke, promised to support FRSC in traffic management.

He called on the leadership of transport unions to educate commercial drivers on traffic rules.

The Bishop of the Anglican Communion, Awori, Dr. Johnson Atere, reminded the gathering that ultimate security was from God and appealed to all stakeholders to pray before leaving their homes each morning.

The Zonal Commander, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Kunle Ajilade, said, “The continuous disregard for traffic rules, especially by worshippers on Sunday is worrisome. They drive against traffic, which is a gross offence.

“As a measure, offenders should be subjected to psychiatric tests and be prosecuted.”
