The British Government on Tuesday said it would ensure that looted funds from Nigeria in the UK were repatriated for the benefit and development of the leading African country.
Britain’s Minister of African Affairs, Mr. Grant Shapps, said this in Kaduna, on Tuesday, during the inauguration of £100m programme on public sector and good governance.
Shapps said that Britain would help Nigeria improve her security and prosperity.
He said the incidence of corruption in Nigeria directly affects Britain, adding that the European country would provide Nigeria with the expertise to tackle corruption.
Admitting that no country was immune to corruption, Shapps said that the solution to the menace was in the evolution of good governance.
He said, “Nigeria matters to the UK. The UK is fully committed to helping Nigeria increase its security, stability and prosperity.
“Tackling corruption is imperative to that. We share and support President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to rooting it out.
“We will continue to provide capacity building and technical and investigative support to Nigeria to tackle corruption and we are scaling up this support. We have an opportunity now to develop a comprehensive partnership across these areas.”
Speaking on the occasion, Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, said the emergence of Buhari was a divine intervention aimed at reposition the country.
