Delta State indigenes in Bayelsa State have thrown their weight behind the re-election bid of Governor Seriake Dickson.
The indigenes, under the auspices of the Isoko Solidarity Group and the Isoko Development Union, said Dickson had stabilised the economy and polity of Bayelsa since he became governor over three and a half years ago.
The Chairman and Coordinator, ISG, Mr. David Ekah, at a press conference in Yenagoa, the state capital, on Friday, said the indigenes would mobilise support for Dickson’s re-election on December 5.
He also said part of the strategies put in place by Isoko indigenes was to organise a 10,000-man March soon to sensitise their indigenes in the state as well as non-indigenes to vote en masse for the incumbent governor.
He said Dickson had proved to be a man of peace and a development-oriented personality, stressing that since he became governor, Bayelsa had enjoyed relative peace and security of lives and property.
Ekah said, “Our people living in the state do no want to go back to the dark days of insecurity in the state. At a point, most of our people and other non-indigenes had to abandon the state because of insecurity.”
