Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday interrogated a former Governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Saidu Dakingari, for alleged corruption on Monday.
A crack team of detectives from the Economic Governance Unit of the commission interrogated the former governor for alleged abuse of office, misappropriation of funds and money laundering-related offences.
A top operative of the commission, who confided in our correspondent, said the commission was probing the former governor over alleged offences he was accused to have committed as a two-term governor of Kebbi State from 2007 to 2015.
Investigations revealed that the former governor reported at the dreaded Idiagbon House Headquarters of the commission at 10am, in honour of an invitation.
The former governor was still being grilled by the EFCC operatives as of the time of filing this report at 5pm.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed to our correspondent on the telephone that Dakingari was invited and he reported at the commission on Monday.
He said, “The former Governor of Kebbi State was invited and he honoured the invitation.”
Prior to Dakingari’s invitation, the commission had invited his wife, Hajia Zainab Dakingari, daughter of the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua, for interrogation over an alleged N2bn fraud on July 22, 2015.
The alleged offence was said to have been committed under Dakingari’s tenure as governor of Kebbi State.
Although the former Kebbi governor’s wife honoured the invitation for a rescheduled interrogation on July 28, the operatives could not make her to go through the rigorous process on health grounds.
It was further gathered that the commission decided to put the probe in the waiting for her to recover from an undisclosed ailment.
