The Interim Chairman, Kaduna North Local Government Area, Alhaji Garba Kurfi, has been suspended from office with immediate effect by the State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai.
It was alleged that the chairman ordered the indiscriminate marking and demolition of buildings in the ongoing recovery of government land.
It was gathered that most of the buildings on Muri Road, occupied by commercial printers, were demolished on the order of the council, contrary to the directive of the state governor.
The suspension, which took effect from Thursday, was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government.
According to el-Rufai’s spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, the suspended chairman is being investigated for unauthorised demolition of houses in Kaduna North Local Government.
The statement read, “The Kaduna State Government has announced the suspension of the interim committee chairman of Kaduna North Local Government Area.
“This action is taken to enable the government to thoroughly investigate the circumstances around the involvement of the suspended chairman in unauthorised activities in the land recovery process.”
