Popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, aka KWAM-1, K-1 De Ultimate, has failed to personally honour an invitation by the Ogun State Police Command on a shooting incident at his show in the state.
The musician, who was said to have travelled to London after his performance last Sunday at a musical show which took place at Limelite Hotel, Ago Iwoye, instead, sent a lawyer on Thursday, whose name was not disclosed by the police.
A female student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Kofoworola Azeez, was hit in the buttocks by a stray bullet allegedly fired by one of the members of the Fuji musician’s band, at the Sunday musical show.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, had explained that the victim sat inside an unregistered Honda car opposite the hotel where KWAM-1 had performed on Sunday, when she was hit by the stray bullet.
Thus, the police command had summoned Ayinde to appear for interrogation.
The PPRO said the police wanted to get more facts by interrogating the musician, so as to get to the root of the matter.
KWAM-1, however, sent his lawyer, who informed the police that the musician was out of the country and would not be able to keep the appointment.
But Adejobi said that anytime KWAM-1 returned from the trip, he would still be required to honour the police invitation.
He added that it was necessary for KWAM-1 to help the police in their investigation into the case and in unravelling who really fired the bullet that hit Kofoworola.
He said, “Wasiu Ayinde did not come to the command’s headquarters on Thursday, as expected, for interrogation. He sent his lawyer to the Area Commander in Ijebu Ode, saying that he had travelled to London.
“However, we told the lawyer that anytime he returns, we would expect him to honour the police invitation to write statement on what he knew about the shooting incident.”
It will also be recalled that the musician denied any connection with the shooting.
He had said, “I wish to state here that such incident, as reported by some newspapers, never happened. To the best of my knowledge, there was peace and order, right from when I arrived in that community, till when I left the stage and took my leave.
“There was no shooting before, during and after my show in Ago-Iwoye. Nothing like that happened to the best of my knowledge.”
