‘Lagos adopted town hall meeting to reach residents’

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Fola Adeyemi, says the state government believes in traditional means of communication in governance.

He explained that the belief informed the decision of the government to adopt the town hall meeting platform to give an account of governance to the state residents.

Adeyemi stated this on Tuesday while welcoming a delegation from the Department of Information under the Federal Capital Territory administration, Abuja, which was on a fact-finding mission to the ministry.

He said effective and efficient service delivery was the hallmark of the state information ministry, adding that it was the core communication channel by which the government disseminated information to Lagosians.

He said, “The traditional means of information dissemination is a dynamic and effective tool in reaching out to the governed for prompt feedback which will guide the government in formulating policies effectively tailored towards the well-being of the citizens.

“We believe in the town hall method of communication, meeting and addressing the people in their various communities. Communication has gone dynamic and a proactive government must come up with effective ways to match this dynamism.”

Adeyemi explained that the ministry had five departments with three core professional ones – Press and Public Relations, Information Production and Public Enlightenment.

He also said there were also agencies under the ministry – the Lagos State Printing Corporation, Lagos State Television, Radio Lagos, Eko FM and Traffic Radio – to make the ministry effective.

Responding on behalf of the delegation, Mrs. Stella Ojeme, said the team was interested in how the state disseminated information to over 21 million residents.
