A leader of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Fasanmi, has said Nigeria is witnessing what he calls a rebirth under President Muhammadu Buhari.
Fasanmi made his position known in a letter of appreciation dated October 3 which he sent to the President.
He was thanking Buhari for the congratulatory message he sent to him on his 90th birthday recently.
The nonagerian said he was humbled by the sentiments expressed in the message and he felt honoured by the attention paid to him.
He noted that corruption was being tackled and infrastructural deficiencies being eliminated by the present administration.
He added that more than ever before, insurgency was being checked under the Buhari administration.
He said he was thankful that he was still alive to witness the rebirth.
Fasanmi said, “I am indeed thankful to God to be alive to see the beginning of a second rebirth for Nigeria under your leadership.
“The cankerworm of corruption that has arrested the development of our beloved country and rendered its institutions dysfunctional is being vigorously tackled.
“In addition, other infrastructural deficiencies especially in the energy sector are gradually being eliminated.
“I note with pride also that the insurgency in the North-East is being confronted with determination.
“More than at any other time since the beginning of the insurgency in 2009, the rebellion is being checked and will, hopefully be ended soon.
“I wish your administration success in tackling this and several issues faced by Nigeria.
“I have no doubt that you are determined to succeed and that the majority of our nationals support unequivocally your quest to re-make Nigeria into a country where honesty, integrity, equity, justice and fairness are the guiding principles and way of life.
“I pray that the vision which progressives have for Nigeria will be fulfilled under your leadership.”
