All is now set for the SNEPCo Junior Tennis Championship slated to hold at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club from Monday to Saturday, October 17.
The International Tennis Academy, organisers of the tournament, said they were expecting a high number of entries and very high standards following pre-tournament competitions held in various states and tennis academies all over the nation.
According to the details, Abelife Tennis Academy, Abuja, which is run by Babatunde Abe, who also coaches Team Tombim, will be making their debut at the championship with six young players. Kano State is also presenting players for the first time in the 12s and 14s categories.
“This is a very good development as tennis development is expanding with academies springing up,” Godwin Kienka, director of the ITA said.
“Some of the states and academies have already called for us to be ready for increased entries and we have assured them that there will not be a problem. The ITA Junior Tennis Circuit is the only circuit in the world with open ended entries and we are proud of that.”
The championship is featuring boys and girls 10s, 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s.
All players from outside of Lagos will be provided with free accommodation while all competitors, coaches, parents and officials will be fed. Winners will also be given very attractive prizes at the end of the championship, the organisers added.
