Coach of the Golden Eaglets Emmanuel Amuneke has selected 21 players for the FIFA U-17 World Cup billed to hold in Chile between October 17 and November 8.
Amuneke told the thenff.com that he was confident that the players will represent the country well in Chile.
“The World Cup is here and we have picked the best players for this assignment to represent our country. We have brought in new players to add value to the team that secured the ticket for Chile at the last African U-17 Nations Cup in Niger Republic and we believe this crop of players would give their best in Chile, as we are the defending champions,” the former African Footballer of the Year said.
Captain of the team that secured the country’s World Cup ticket at the African U-17 Nations Cup in Niger, Kelechi Nwakali, will lead the squad to Chile.
Others picked from that team are Victor Osimhen, Ebere Osinachi, Akpan Udoh, Amos Benjamin, Halilu Lukman, Lazarus John, Kingsley Michael, Orji Okonkwo and Samuel Chukwueze.
Chinedu Madueke, Sunday Alimi and Chisom Chiaha, who failed to make the Niger 2015 squad, were also selected.
The completely new faces are David Enogela, Ibe Tobechukwu, EjikeIkwu, Funsho Bamgboye, Chukwudi Agor, Joel Osikel, Edidiong Essien and Udochukwu Anumudu.
The Eaglets would play the opening match of the FIFA U-17 World Cup against the United States of America on October 17 at the Estadio Nacional Julio MartÃnez Prádanos in Santiago.
The Eaglets are in Group A alongside hosts Chile, USA and Croatia. They would play Chile on October 20 and Croatia on October 23.
