Super Eagles defender Jamiu Alimi has warned Nigeria's opponents in their next 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Egypt, that Nigeria players will "spill blood" in the double header clashes between both teams in March, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Egypt lead Group G of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers with six points while Nigeria trail in second place with four points. The group also contains Tanzania and Chad.
Alimi who was part of the Eagles side to the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda reflects the thoughts of the team during an exclusive chat with Completesportsnigeria.com
"After participating in the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), qualifying for the 2017 African Cup of Nations and the 2018 World Cup are the team's targets this year," Alimi tells Completesportsnigeria.com.
"The CHAN didn't go as planned, but we should look ahead and Egypt is the immediate match. We are ready to spill blood in that match because after a disappointing CHAN, we cannot afford to resume the qualifiers on a losing note," insists Alimi, who last played for 3SC.
The 2015/2016 Nigeria Premier League season kicks off on Saturday, February 20, and Alimi is of the opinion that Kano Pillars will gun for the title.
"This is a new season. As you know, Kano Pillars are always fighting for something and the league title is our aim this season.
"Enyimba, Warri Wolves and others will always be the challengers, but the management of Pillars are keen on ensuring the club bounce back and start winning again. I was impressed by their ambition. May God help us," the central defender states.
Pillars will begin the new season with a game against Enugu Rangers at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
Kick off time is 4pm Nigerian time.
