Hector Cuper has stated that Egypt had a torrid time against the Super Eagles in Tuesday's 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Alexandria.
A 65th minute goal by Ramadan Sobhy, gave the Pharaohs a 1-0 win and on the brink of qualifying for the AFCON after missing the last three editions.
The defeat ruined Nigeria's chances of qualifying for the AFCON after missing last edition in Equatorial Guinea.
According to kingfut.com, Cuper said they had a tough second half after starting well in the first half, and almost conceded a goal.
"We played very well in the first half. The second half was not as good as the first, but that normally happens when you come against a tough opponent like Nigeria.
"We threatened the Nigerians with many counter-attacks, but were unlucky to finish them. We also could have conceded a goal during the match," Cuper said.
Cuper expressed his delight that Egypt are close to making a return to the AFCON. He also hailed his players for the victory against Nigeria.
"I am very happy that we are on the verge of qualification to the African Cup of Nations. I am especially proud of manging this group of players who fought on the pitch for 90 minutes to secure the win for Egypt," Cuper stated.
