Musa, Mba, Obodo Score As Balogun Returns From Injury

Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa was on the scoresheet as CSKA Moscow battered Saransk 7-1 in a Russian Premier League matchon Saturday.

 

Musa scored CSKA's fourth goal of the rout in the 25th minuted as his club climbed to the top of the table.

 

Another Nigeria forward, Aaron Samuel, was involved for CSKA, coming on in place of Goran Tosic after 57 minutes.

 

In Germany, Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun returned to FSV Mainz's starting line-up in their 1-1 draw away to Wolfsburg at Volkswagen Arena.

 

The 27-year-old who has been out of action due to a hamstring injury played the entire game in what was his 19th Bundesliga appearance this season.

 

Nigeria captain Mikel Obi made his 20th Premier League appearance for Chelsea who lost 1-0 to Swansea in Saturday's round of games. Midfielder Mikel also featured in the centre-back role after Matt Miazga was replaced for Kenedy.

 

Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo extended his goals drought to nine games as he fired blanks yet again on Saturday in Watford’s 1-1 draw against Everton.

 

James Mccarthy scored the opening goal for Everton but Jose Holebas equalised for Watford. Ighalo who opened his EPL goal 

account in the reverse fixture has scored 14 goals in 32 games. 

 

He was yellow carded in stoppage time of the encounter.  The 26-year-old remains the sixth top scorer in the EPL.

 

At the  Boleyn Ground, Nigerian youngster Alex Iwobi set up two of Arsenal’s goals in their 3-3 draw against West Ham on Saturday.

 

The Nigerian international set up Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez as the Gunners raced to 2-0 lead after 35 minutes before Andy Carroll scored a hat-trick in eight minutes for the Hammers. 

 

Victor Moses was an unused substitute, while his compatriot, Emmanuel Emenike came on for James Tomkins at half time in what was his ninth EPL appearance this season.

 

In Belgium, Moses Simon was hauled off at half time in Gent's 2-0 loss away to Club Brugge on Saturday.

 

In the Championship, Carl Ikeme kept his ninth clean sheet of the season for Wolverhampton Wanderers who drew goalless at home to Blackburn Rovers. Ikeme has conceded 32 goals in 27 appearances for Wolves this season.

 

Osaze Odemwingie failed to add to his goals at home for Bristol City who thrashed Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 at Ashton Gate. Odemwingie prior to this encounter had scored twice at home. He came on for Bobby Reid and has made six appearances for the club.

 

In Turkey, Sunday Mba scored his sixth goal of the season for Yeni Malatyaspor who defeated Sanliurfaspor 2-1. 

 

Mba has played 23 games for the club. The encounter also saw Nigeria U-23s skipper Azubuike Okechukwu come on for Ali Sakal in the 79th minute of the game while Izu Azuka was an unused substitute.

 

Godfrey Oboabona played his 18th game of the season as Rizespor forced Galatasaray to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

 

The duo of Raheem Lawal and Aminu Umar were both handed starting roles for Osmanlispor FK who played out a 1-1 draw at home to Eskisehirspor.

 

In Romania, Christian Obodo scored from the spot to help his side Concordia Chiajna earn a point in their 1-1 draw at home to 

Petrolul Ploiesti on Friday.

 

His compatriot Michael Odibe was in action from start to finish in the encounter. It was Odibe's sixth game since joining the club on a three-month loan deal.
