Falconets overthrow Liberia 7-1 in Monrovia
Coach Peter Dedevbo’s girls began their chase for
a World Cup ticket on a brilliant note as they blew
aside their hosts before their home fans
Liberia U20 Women team
got spanked by their
Nigerian opponent 7-1 in
the second round first leg
qualifier played at the
Antoinette Tubman Stadium
in Monrovia on Sunday.
A hat-trick from Yetunde Adeboyejo, a brace from
Amarachi Orjinma plus goals from Chinwedu
Ihezuo and Juliet Sunday were all the Falconets
needed to tear apart their hosts in the one-sided
affair.
Falconets got an early lead through Adeboyejo in
the third minute as her strike partner Ihezuo
doubled the lead on the hour mark.
Adeboyejo netted her second and Nigeria’s third
nine minutes before half time, but the Liberians
pulled one back on the stroke of the half time.
Shortly after Yetunde’s treble early in the second
half, Juliet Sunday got her side’s fifth goal in the
70th minute, while Ojinma’s late double gave
coach Dedevbo’s ladies a massive boost heading
into the second leg in Nigeria in two weeks’ time.
The winner of the fixture will proceed to the third
round of qualifiers, to play the winner of the
Namibia/DR Congo fixture for a place at the 2016
Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup billed for Papua New
Guinea.
