The Nigeria Police force men attached to Nigeria
Railway Corporation reportedly have apprehended 58 suspected
hoodlums for sitting on top of a moving train
between Mushin and Iju-Ishaga areas of Lagos
State.
The Commissioner of Police, Railway Command, Pius
Imue, while confirming the arrest,also said that the
suspects would be prosecuted for putting their
lives at risk.
He said the command had always struggled with
the problem of people sitting on top of moving
trains, adding that the police and the NRC
management were prepared to tackle the menace.
He added that a number of measures, including
creating barriers on top of the coaches to prevent
people from gaining access to the top, were being
considered, even as he added that the police
would continue with arrest of such people.
The acting Area Commander, Ebute Metta
command, CSP Sarah Mangwe, who paraded the
suspects, said they had previously warned the public severally about this dangerous act before they raided and arrested the hudloms.
She said a team of police officers, led by DSP
Ishiaku Agwin, on Wednesday, swooped on the
hoodlums and arrested 58 of those that sat on top
of a train.
The Railway District Manager, Lagos, Mr. Akin
Osinowo, said the menace had been with the
corporation for a long time and hopes this might be a warning to others to see the danger in it.
