Fleeing Boko Haram militants invade three Adamawa villages

Fleeing members of the terrorist sect, Boko Haram, have destroyed over 60 houses and valuable property in three Adamawa State villages, a local hunter told our correspondent on the telephone.

He said the insurgents  attacked Sabon Gari, Kafin Hausa and Dutse Biyu in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, lamented that the insurgents, who were fleeing from soldiers, who had intensified their onslaught on the terrorists in their Borno State enclaves, ransacked the villages, stealing foodstuffs and other valuables.

Madagali Local Government Area shares boundaries with Gwoza LGA in Borno Sate, which is one the strongholds of the Boko Haram fighters.

The local hunter said the insurgents might have been attracted to Madagali area because of its mountainous landscapes, which could create some shield from both aerial and land attacks.

Another source in the area, Ibrahim Abu, said as soon as the villagers sighted the fleeing insurgents trooping into their villages in their hundreds on Saturday, they fled the village to safer places.

The Acting Brigade Commander of the 23rd Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Yola, Col. A. Popoola, in a telephone interview with newsmen said though Madagali was under the control of another commanding officer in charge of 28 Task Force Battalion, Mubi, he was told by the commander that three villages were attacked and houses destroyed by the suspected insurgents.

Popoola said according to the report from the commander in charge of 28 TFB, Mubi, no life was lost in the attack.

He added that the troops had been to the villages on a fact-finding mission and provision of security for residents.

“Actually, Madagali is under the control of 28 Task Force Battalion, based in Mubi town, but the commanding officer told me that it was true that there was an attack on two villages, Dutse-biyu and one other village in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State,” he stated.
