The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase has ordered massive deployment of police personnel to all Eid praying grounds and other worship centres, including public places and recreation centres to ensure a hitch-free Eid-Kabir celebration nationwide.
He has also mandated all Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Command Commissioners of Police to ensure adequate security at key and vulnerable points before, during and after the celebration.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, on Wednesday in Abuja said the IG admonished Nigerians to always report any act of criminality to the police at all times “as the Nigeria Police are prepared to take prompt and decisive actions.”
Arase wished Muslims, a happy Eid- El- Kabir and assured that the police would provide robust security throughout the period of the festival.
“He therefore ordered effective and extensive deployment of personnel including movement of necessary logistics to all nooks and crannies in the country,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory, John Chukwu, has congratulated Islamic faithful across the country, especially those resident in the FCT as they mark the Eid-el-Kabir.
The Permanent Secretary in a Sallah message by FCT Deputy Director, Press, Mohammed Sule, urged Muslims to use the occasion to reflect on the lessons of the festival and the teachings of the doctrine of Islamic faith, “which is premised on peace and sacrifice.”
Chukwu encouraged them to pray for the nation “as it imbibes the tenets of change at all strata of its society, which is geared towards national development and self-sustenance.”
He called for prayers for the success of the country’s leadership under President Muhammadu Buhari.
“While thanking Allah for sparing our lives to witness this year’s Sallah celebration, the Permanent Secretary further enjoined all Nigerians irrespective of our religious belief and political inclination to continue to live in peace and harmony with one another, advising, “we should be our brothers’ keeper,” the statement said.
