The Multi National Joint Task Force has deployed troops of the newly created 7 Brigade to pursue the insurgents in the Lake Chad Basin.
The Acting Director, Defence Information, Col. Rabe Abubakar, said in a statement on Monday that the Brigade was entrusted with the responsibility of blocking all escape routes of the insurgents and to prevent terrorists’ infiltration into the country and her neighbours.
Abubakar urged the insurgents to stop the mindless destruction and killings in the North-East and embrace the option of becoming citizens who could contribute to societal development.
He said the military had a renewed commitment to sustain the offensive against Boko Haram until their operations were totally brought to an end.
He said military would continue with the offensive against the insurgents to prevent them from regrouping to carry out their attack on the nation.
“The Nigerian Armed Forces have renewed commitment to continue the ongoing coordinated joint assaults on Boko Haram in the North-East until the operations of the guerrillas are totally impaired and collapsed. To this end, the coordinated operation of the security forces in the contested area designed to dismantle the technical preeminence and capabilities of the terrorist group would intensify because the masquerading guerrillas should not be given any breathing space to regroup and re-strategise their campaign.
“For optimum success in the counteroffensives, the recent deployment of the 7 Brigade of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin would ensure a total blockade of possible escape routes in the area to forestall further infiltration of the terrorist elements into the country and its neighbours.
“The terrorists are hereby warned to stop their mindless acts of violence and embrace peace in order that they might become useful citizens contributing positively to the socioeconomic development of not just the North-East but the country as a whole,” the statement read.
