The Nigerian Army has said troops involved in the on-going counter terrorism operation have arrested a top Boko Haram Commander identified as Bulama Modu and 43 others.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Wednesday that the captured Boko Haram Kingpin, Modu, belonged to the Amir cadre of the deadly sect.

He said Modu and the other suspected terrorists were arrested during an operation that resulted in the destruction of two terrorists’ camps at Janguoriri and Bulatori.

He said the troops recovered some bows and arrows from Bulama who also confessed that a horse was given to him to carry out his deadly mission.

The Acting Army Spokesman said Boko Haram kingpins had been discovered to be burying their weapons and abandoning their commanders.

According to Usman, one terror suspect, Mohammed Modu, led the troops to a point where he buried his AK 47 rifle.

He said the Special Forces also rescued 241 women and children during the operation.

He said, “Please recall that yesterday advancing troops along Banki axis made tremendous progress in which they cleared two Boko Haram terrorists’ camps at Jangurori and Bulatori villages.

“In addition to that, the troops have also arrested 43 suspected Boko Haram terrorists including one of the Boko Haram kingpins in the area, Bulama Modu, who is an ‘Amir’ of Bulakuri. The troops also rescued 241 women and children during the operation.

“To further confirm what was said earlier about the terrorists abandoning their commanders and burying weapons, one Mohammed Modu led troops to where he buried his AK-47 rifle at Jangurori village.

“Apart from arms and ammunitions, bows and arrows recovered from Bulama Modu, the kingpin, he confirmed that the terrorists also gave him a horse to enhance his deadly pursuits.”

Usman said the troops also arrested one Aji Gambo at Wudla village who disclosed that the terrorists who attacked Northern Cameroun were from Dara Jamel in Nigeria, where the insurgents had an Improvised Explosive Device factory.

Gambo was said to have told the troops that the suicide bombers and the IEDs used for the attack on Northern Cameroun were prepared by the trio of Abdulrahaman Alkali, Isa, Ba’ana Hisuba and Alkali Isa Karami, all natives of Dara Jamel.

He added that the suspected insugents had fled Dara Jamel for Sumbulun Village.

Usman said the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant Gen.Tukur Buratai, who had been monitoring the progress made in the campaign, commended the soldiers for their impressive performance.
