The family of Chief Sir James Uduji, Chairman of Cometstar Manufacturing Ltd, has reacted to the recent news report that the family has paid the sum of 100 million naira to the abductors of their son as ransom to secure his release.
They described the figures quoted in the news report as untrue and a figment of the reporters’ imagination. Reacting to the story published on Saturday Sun, 26 September 2015, the patriarch of the family, Sir Uche Uduji, explained that although they did not want to speak to the press for personal reasons, it has become imperative to set the record straight as such a story is capable of portraying the family in a bad light.
Chief James Uduji was abducted at gun point near his house at 72 Junction, 7th avenue Festac Town while returning from work on the 7th September 2015, fuelling outcries on the deteriorating security situation, especially violent crimes, in Festac town, Lagos, which the police authorities appear to be watching helplessly.
Sir Uduji also insisted that they were still negotiating with the abductors of their son, still refusing to disclose the amount paid. He explained that what the family has offered is not in anyway near the one hundred million naira as reported.
Chief Uduji, speaking to the press for the first time since the abduction of his brother 3 weeks ago, explained that the family has resorted to prayers that God touches the heart of the abductors to release his brother, attributing the rising surge of kidnapping to unemployment.
