A Niger Delta based group, Concerned Niger Delta Youths Initiative has advised the Federal Government not to play into the hands of the British government in its quest to extradite the former governor of Bayelsa State, DSP Alamieyeseigha. In a statement issued yesterday by its President, Comrade Orubebe Ebis, the group argued that the renewed call for the extradition of Alamieyeseigha is a veritable threat to the fragile peace in the Niger Delta. Recall that the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Andrew Pocock, had in a recent interview said the former Bayelsa State governor DSP still had a case to answer in the United Kingdom. The Niger Delta group urged President Muhammadu Buhari to ignore the UK government in order not to ignite another flame in the region. “Our advice to the Federal Government is not to play into the hands of the UK government. The Federal Government should not play this politics that UK is trying to play because it will be counter-productive. “From the messages at our disposal, the fragile peace in the Niger Delta will be threatened if the rumoured extradition of the former governor is effected and Nigeria will suffer for it. “Today, we are battling with the Boko Haram issue in the North East and the deadly group with their recent bombing of Abuja, the seat of power, has shown that the war against the deadly terrorist group is far from being over, they are still very much around and alive. This means that Nigeria as a country has many battles on her hands now and therefore, there is no need or urgency in adding another one. Let us in the interest of peace allow this sleeping dog to lie. We are totally in support of President Buhari’s government war against corruption and impunity,” it stated.
