The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, says Nigerians should begin to proffer solutions to numerous challenges in the country.
The governor, who spoke in Alausa, Ikeja, during the visit of the participants from the National Defence College Course 24 on a ‘Geo-Strategic Study’ to the state on Monday, charged the visitors to come out with suggestions on how governance could be more beneficial to the people.
The governor expressed delight at the visit of the participants, who were senior military and para-military officers, saying his administration was receptive to new ideas and would also welcome suggestions on how to improve Internally Generated Revenue in the state.
Ambode, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Cabinet Office, Mrs. Folasade Ogunnaike, expressed hope that at the end of the various presentations by the team to some local government areas and agencies, they would have been well educated on the subject matter of their tour.
He said, “It is my understanding that this study tour is designed to avail you of the information relevant to the theme such as the economy of the state, sources of increased IGR and challenges militating against IGR, among others.
“As you are aware, Lagos State is the commercial and economic centre of Nigeria, contributing over 60 per cent to non-oil National Gross Domestic Product. The state is also the most populous in Nigeria with a population of over 21 million and is expected, according to the United Nations report, to reach 25 million by year 2020.”
Earlier, the leader of the team, Brig. Gen. Mahe Bashir, said the programme was ongoing in nine other states, adding that it was aimed at discovering socio-political and economic life of the people and how best to improve their IGR.
