The National Commission for Colleges of Education has threatened to shut colleges of education across the country over delay in issuing certificates to graduates.
The Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Monday Joshua, said this at Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, during the inauguration of multi-media micro teaching laboratories.
Speaking on Wednesday, Joshua stated that he would direct the authorities of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to deny students admission into colleges of education that are known for non-issuance of certificates to students after graduation.
Joshua stated that there was a need for the college to embark on a comprehensive skills development to deepen knowledge on the use of information and communication technology since young learners are growing up in a digitalised world.
“We are going to sanction any college of education that delays in releasing results or issuing certificates to students after graduation.
“I will direct the authorities of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to deny students admission into colleges of education that are known for non-issuance of certificates to students after graduation on time.
“The Federal Government has approved funds for the construction and equipping of state-of-the-art multi-media micro teaching laboratories in all federal colleges of education and one state college of education in all the states of the federation, including Federal Capital Territory.
“Once the project is put to use, it is no longer necessary to engage foreign experts to showcase how new Information Communication Technology-powered teaching methods can be delivered in college classrooms,” he said.
He reiterated government’s readiness to ensure continuous maintenance of the equipment in order to serve the intended function.
