Popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, aka KWAM-1, K-1 De Ulitimate, says he was not aware of any shooting at the venue of his show at Lime Lite Hotel, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, on Sunday.
The police had said a female student of the Department of Business Education, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Kofoworola Azeez, was hit by a bullet allegedly fired on Sunday by a member of KWAM-1 band.
But the musician, in a statement on Tuesday by Otunba Sesan Rufai, the Managing Director of the hotel, said the reported incident never happened.
The statement read in part, “On my way to the venue of the show, I noticed the heavy presence of security personnel of both the police and military forces. This gave me confidence that there would not be any issue of disorder during our stay in that neighbourhood. I mounted the stage to perform at 3.30am on Sunday and stopped at about 6.15am.
“In attendance at that show were many highly-placed dignitaries and many students. After we were done, students, police and military personnel rallied round me and my band to take pictures.
“I wish to state here that such incident, as reported by some newspapers never happened. To the best of my knowledge, there was peace and order, right from when I arrived in that community, till when I left the stage and took my leave.”
Meanwhile, the police said KWAM-1 would be interrogated on Thursday over the shooting.
The interrogation, our correspondents gathered, would take place at the command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday, said the owner of the hotel, Rufai, had written a statement.
Adejobi said, “The police want to get more facts by interrogating the musician, so as to get to the root of the matter.”
