THE Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Mohammed, has cautioned Nigerian youths against being used by disgruntled elements to perpetrate violence in the country.
The NSCDC chief also enjoined the youths to embrace peace as, according to him, that was the only way Nigeria could achieve greatness.
Mohammed spoke at a two-day workshop on, ‘Peace for Youths’ in Kaduna on Tuesday.
The workshop was organised by the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution and the NSCDC, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme.
It has as its theme, “The Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for Nigeria Youth.”
The Commandant-General of the NSCDC, represented by the Zonal Commandant, Nathaniel Ubong, cautioned Nigerian youths against being used as launch-pad to perpetrate violence in the country.
He noted that the NDSCDC had been in the forefront for the enthronement of peace in the land. He therefore urged Nigerians to support the current administration’s efforts at fighting insurgency, kidnapping as well as pipeline vandalism in the country.
This way, he noted, the country under President Muhammadu Buhari would move forward socio-economically.
He said, “We have had enough violence in Nigeria. Enough is enough. The latest bomb blasts in Nyanya and Kuje areas of Abuja were uncalled for. Every segment of the society must ensure that there is peace because Nigeria is the giant of Africa.
“Let’s stand behind Mr. President and have a change of mind and a change of attitudes to ensure that peace is realised in our society for the benefit of all of us.
“I want to say that our youths are made for development; they are the future leaders. They are supposed to be ambassadors of peace and development.”
