Standard Chartered Bank has announced that September 21 to October 20 will be its ‘Employee Volunteering Month’, a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, aimed at encouraging staff members to use their skills to assist residents of the local communities.
As a result, the United Kingdom-based lender said many of its staff members had started working on the bank support programmes such as eradicating preventable blindness, support for people living with HIV/AIDS or financial education.
It added that other employees were planting trees, mentoring and training youths on health and hygiene.
Commenting on the launch, the Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria, Mrs. Bola Adesola, said, “We believe that volunteering is good for our communities, staff and our business; the bank offers every employee three days paid leave to volunteer and it is great to see staff members showing strong commitment and passion to serve the community in which we operate.
“We look forward to the opportunity of using our skills in making a unique contribution to Nigeria this year.”
