The Election Petitions Tribunal hearing matters arising from the last general elections in Osun State has dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in Osun East Senatorial District, Mr. Francis Fadahunsi, against the victory of Senator Babajide Omoworare, of the All Progressives Congress.
The Chairman of the three-man panel, Justice A.G. Kwajaffa, who read the unanimous judgment in Osogbo on Monday, held that the petition lacked merit.
Fadahunsi had filed a petition challenging the result of the election in 58 units where he alleged there was violence, corrupt practices and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
But Omoworare urged the panel to dismiss the petition which he described as frivolous.
The tribunal dismissed the testimonies of 23 witnesses called by the petition, but believed the evidence of seven witnesses.
The three-man panel deducted 804 votes from the total votes of the APC candidate and deducted 546 votes from Fadahunsi’s votes in some of the disputed units.
The section left Omoworare with 100,548 votes while Fadahunsi’s votes were reduced to 98,680.
